The Institutions of the European Union endeavour to be transparent, open and accessible. They want to be seen in the best possible light by the public at large. We share this objective, and intend to contribute to its achievement.
State
partners are preserving digital legislative information. The project, lead by
the Minnesota Historical Society, is working with legislatures in several
states to explore enhanced access to legislative digital records. The purpose
of this meeting was to provide an update on recent activities, concentrating on
a demonstration of the open source eXist native XML database .
eXist has
been selected by the project for building pilot applications for importing,
searching, exporting and managing digital legislative information, much of
which is already in XML format. In conjunction with the meeting, the project
has published a white paper on XML Native Databases,
providing background information on how XML has changed the way data can be
stored and accessed, and providing a primer on the differences between the
different types of XML databases.
The mission
of the eGovernment Interest Group (eGov IG) is to explore how to improve access
to government through better use of the Web and achieve better government
transparency using open Web standards at any government level (local, state,
national and multi-national). The eGov IG is designed as a forum to support
researchers, developers, solution providers, and users of government services
that use the Web as the delivery channel, and enable broader collaboration
across eGov practitioners.

Sophia Semantic Engine is software that
analyzes and understands natural language, creating a layer of interpretation
in applications that interact with users in a linguistic form and applications
that deal with unstructured information. The Sophia Semantic Engine is based on
proprietary morpho-syntactic analysis modules and on a semantic lexicon of
broad coverage. Domain-dependent modules for semantic analysis are developed on
top of a base syntactic analysis component.
