It’s odd but the “search” feature inside EU websites is very poor and many users select a GYM search engine ( Google, Yahoo!, Microsoft ) to try and find relevant documents.

ePractice.eu is a portal created by the European Commission which offers a new service for the professional community of eGovernment, eInclusion and eHealth practitioners.
It is an interactive initiative that empowers its users to discuss and influence open government, policy-making and the way in which public administrations operate and deliver services.
It’s a pity but many Commission’s DGs create, with the help of subcontractors, a lot of useful websites, which unfortunately don’t belong to the “.europa.eu” domain ( equivalent to .gov.uk for EU). That means a “search” within this domain is useless to find theses websites.
That is the case for ePractice.eu ( DG Information Society ).
Same comments could be made on Commission’s DG Research and Innovation: http://www.ec-gis.org/ , http://sdi.jrc.it/ , http://www.proinno-europe.eu/ , http://www.europe-innova.org/index.jsp , http://www.gate2growth.com/ , http://www.ipr-helpdesk.org , http://www.innovating-regions.org/ …
It is perhaps a way to avoid the internal “red tape” when implementing such websites and also overcome difficulties due to multilinhualism but it is very annoying for end-users who wish to look for information for project assignments or for solving academic problems.

What does it mean to collaborate on a Custom Search Engine?
Collaboration is an optional feature for Custom Search Engines which allows other trusted users to contribute to your Custom Search Engine. Contributors can add sites to include or exclude in your search engine and apply search refinements to them. They cannot change the name, description, or look and feel of your search engine and they cannot access the code or make money features in your search engine. You can either invite people explicitly, or allow anyone to volunteer to collaborate, with your approval. If you pick the second option, you get to approve anyone who volunteers before they can start contributing.
