The 2008 Irish eGovernment Awards were announced on 21 February 2008 during a gala evening in Dublin, attended by over 350 guests including Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Eamon Ryan TD.
The overall winner of this year’s Awards was the Irish Energy Board – Bord Gais
– which also won the prize for ‘Best Commercial State Body’ for its
website which enables users to pay their bills and submit meter
readings on-line. Judges described the site as being "superior to
almost any other transactional website. It is intuitive, fully
functional and of great benefit to both the organisation and to its
customers. It is a credit to those who led the project."
Another
major winner was Cork City Council which took two awards – the
Accessible Irish eGovernment Award and the eProject Management category
– for its accesscork.ie
website which helps people with disabilities to identify accessible
shops, restaurants, pubs, accommodation and entertainment venues in
Cork city.
In total, 12 awards presented, the other notable
winners including the Revenue Online Service, which came away with the
Central Irish eGovernment Award for its websites revenue.ie and ros.ie, and the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources which won the marketing category for its Power of One campaign.
The
Irish eGovernment Awards, jointly run by the ‘Public Sector Times’
newspaper and web usage and content experts, Elucidate, are now in
their sixth year. They are the recognised benchmark for excellence in
Irish eGovernment services and standards, raising awareness and giving
recognition to the front runners in the delivery of quality eGovernment
services.
