A former Downing Street insider told GC Expo that the public sector faced daunting challenges over the next few years
"The scope of government is growing all the time, and this is problematic for two reasons," he said. "Firstly, the attitude of citizens to government is to demand omnipotence while expecting incompetence.
"Secondly, there is a globalisation of many issues and a decentralisation of others, with central government in the middle. People want personalised, localised solutions, and the institution of central government is building its role but losing its empire."
