At the previous meeting of the Government 2.0 Steering Group, one of the points of discussion involved creating a more effective register of Australian Government Gov 2.0 activity. Such a register could include agency use of social media or other Web 2.0 tools, greater release of data online, or other innovative uses of online technology to support greater government engagement and transparency.
The Steering Group agreed that this approach would allow for a better demonstration of what is being achieved by agencies in this space. The Steering Group also believes it will provide other agencies and public servants with ideas about how to bring Gov 2.0 approaches into their own work and initiatives.
Originally, a register of agency Government 2.0 initiatives was a part of the Gov 2.0 govdex community. The Government 2.0 Showcase (now a part of the broader Innovation Showcase) also played an important role in providing case studies about Gov 2.0-enabled projects.
We have now expanded the govdex register into a broader, publicly-available Government 2.0 Register, including separate lists for Australian Government initiatives using Gov 2.0 approaches, as well as lists covering agency use of blogs, Facebook, Twitter and RSS feeds.
The lists are all available for public editing and contributions. We will also accept feedback or contributions by email – more information is available on the page above. The Steering Group welcomes any contributions to the lists or suggestions for improvement.
These lists are another step towards creating a more effective register of agency Government 2.0 activity. In the future, we may look to refine or build on these lists and would be interested in any ideas you may have in this area.
